Piano Time

We have three videos this week. One is a dance compilation from last week, featuring Pharrell Williams' Freedom.

Second, we have our week-in-review, featuring pianist from all classes.

And last, we have a demonstration from our "Playing with the Classics" unit, featuring Mussorgsky's "Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks". Students are able to distinguish between phrases utilizing storytelling and music. Watch the unhatched chicks try to break out of their shells!

Students have continued to work hard through the piano units and it's beginning to show in their playing. Students in K-8 will use an iPad application called Piano Maestro, which is free to PRIS students since they already have accounts. Grades 3-8 should know their account information and the application can be used at home. If your student is in Kindergarten, 1st or 2nd grade, please contact me if you are interested in using the iPad app. at home. ECC students are also recognizing classical music and nursery rhymes independently and often request these activities in class.

In library, students in Grades 1-4 had a technology day to get their "shelves" and reviews caught-up on Destiny Quest. Be sure to check-out our responsibility and ownership thought bubbles on the library doors. Next week, we will begin identifying acts of kindness throughout the school with a display on the library windows.

Musical Rehearsals for Grades 3-8 are underway. Here is a copy of the Rehearsal Calendar for the remainder of the rehearsal process (from now to March 11). You can also visit the right side of this blog, where there is a Google Calendar Rehearsal Schedule. If you press the + sign in the bottom right, you can add it to your own Google Calendar. Students should have lines, blocking and choreography memorized by Monday, February 1.

Look for more posts, videos, recordings, and resources on the blog and PRIS Music & Library YouTube page (and subscribe!) and feel free to share with families. Don't forget to follow us on Instagram.
