A Short Update

Happy Monday! As I will be away this week and the students also have a field trip on Wednesday, this will be the blog entry for the week. The day before fall break, expect a longer, more complete entry to round out the first eight weeks of school!

Grade 3/4 performed "Somos El Barco" this morning at assembly. They did an amazing job and were joined by electric guitarist, Mr. Mark. A special thanks to him for volunteering his time and talent.

Teamwork!

We have a great week-in-review of mostly instruments and lots of awesome pictures!

In library, we are finishing up our Teamwork unit. The Pre-K students are swimming as one big fish and the Grade 3/4s are working to reshelve books together. The Pre-K and Kindergarten students also read Farmer Duck by Martin Waddell to explore how working as a team is faster, easier, more efficient and more fun than working alone.

In music, the students are busy, filling their time with songs, dances, and instruments. Kindergarten students tried playing their "Hello, There" song on the small bells. Pre-K has been learning the actions to a new song, "Do Your Ears Hang Low?". The Grade 1/2 class started a new song as well, called "Tingalayo," adding percussion rhythms that they heard in the recording. The Grade 3/4 class is preparing for a Monday assembly performance and had a special guest this way. Mr. Mark came to show us his electric guitar, accompany on a song, and answer questions about his musical background. The students were overjoyed to see a real musician live!

In choir, students are practicing correct posture and breathing, in addition to working on a new, beautiful song, "Dona Nobis Pacem."

Instruments and Singing Galore!

We have three videos to start our week, beginning with our week-in-review. The students are busy on instruments, dance, and singing! You may see repeats from before, but notice the improvement.

Our Song-of-the-Week was requested by a Grade 3 student and was a huge crowd-pleaser after being featured in the movie, Home, a few months ago. Free movement is such an important aspect of self-confidence, expression, and coordination, so we devote at least 3-4 minutes per week to it.

The Grade 1-2 Students worked so hard to prepare their hand-clapping performances. You have seen their works in progress, but now it's all put together and ready to go. You saw their transition, post-performance, to the instrumental part of this lesson, as well.

A LIBRARY REMINDER

Students are well into the check-out routine in library. Please remember, if a book is lost, either Yanti or Megan must be notified by a parent before it can be marked as "lost" in the system. Until then, the book will remained checked-out and the student will not be able to check-out any new books.

Please note your children's library days so that they can be sure to bring their books back on time:

Mondays, 11:05-11:35, Pre-K 3/4yrs
Mondays, 11:50-12:20, Grade 3-4
Thursdays, 11:50-12:20, Grade 1-2
Fridays, 1:00-1:30, Kindergarten

In library, students in Grades 1-4 read Frederick by Leo Lionni. This book gives an interesting perspective on teamwork and teammates. Remember, you can view many of the books we read in library on the Book Read-Alouds playlist on the YouTube Page.

In music class, students are transferring vocal knowledge to begin their instrument units. The choir is close to performing their first song for video and the PreK is enjoying learning game songs that can be transferred to instrument games.
