Progress and Practice

Meanwhile, as all students have a final rehearsal for the Holiday Concert, Annie Jr. students are still practicing hard. For one month, about 2-3 times per week, the cast has been practicing the music and many of the songs have graduated to performance quality with only a need for memorization. Here are some clips of their progress:

One of the students also found an excellent resource on YouTube, a playlist with color-coded Annie, Jr. songs with lyrics.

Students can view the rehearsal calendar, practice the songs and get other powerful information in the Annie, Jr. Google Drive Folder.

Here are a few pictures from the Holiday Concert dress rehearsal which happened yesterday morning. The stage is being designed by Ms. Craig & Ibu Yanti with help from Pak Fiersen and Pak Arif.

Holiday Concert photos and/or video may not come until after the holidays. Have a wonderful break and I look forward to seeing you in three weeks!

One Week Until We Sing!

Normally, I don't share the same video more than once, but we did not want to share an extended performance from the concert as many of the students want it to be a surprise. So, here is the trailer for the concert, again. I hope you all can join us!

Students have been continuing to prepare for the concert this week, including some join rehearsals and some lyric review. Children are encouraged to keep practicing until the day before the concert to keep the tunes and lyrics in their heads.

Annie rehearsals are well underway. Please remember, the links to the Annie folder are always on the top right of this blog, as well as below. Students should start practicing and memorizing lines and songs now. Having a personal goal for the end of break would be a great idea!

One of the students also found an excellent resource on YouTube, a playlist with color-coded Annie, Jr. songs with lyrics.

Students can view the rehearsal calendar, practice the songs and get other powerful information in the Annie, Jr. Google Drive Folder.

In library, students read a pop-up version of The 12 Days of Christmas and one of my favorites, The Little Engine that Could

Grade 3/4 students also played a relay game to help them learn where authors are located in the library. Our goal for the new year is to expand and improve search skills!

Some classes who won't have a full library time next week will be reading Welcome Comfort by Patricia Polacco this week, my favorite Christmas book. I invite you to ask them about what the author's message of this book.

Library Announcement:
Reading daily is so important to growth and literacy, so the library is encouraging students to read every day over the holiday break. To support this, we are allowing each student to check out two books the week before break (a change from past practice of collecting all library books the week before vacations). We ask that families try to keep track of these books and return them after the holidays. The students have been taught how to keep books "happy". We look forward to seeing all books returned in their original condition after the holidays.

Thank you,
Ms. Megan & Ibu Yanti

There will be a short blog entry next week with a summary of the concert. Enjoy your weekend!

The students are practicing hard, both instrumentally and vocally, for the Holiday Concert!

Annie rehearsals started this week, with students spending two days doing a read-through as a whole cast and one day in music rehearsal. The students sound great!

In library, students in grades PreK3-1 read three books, practicing comprehension and inference skills. Home for a Dinosaur by Eileen Curran, If You Take a Mouse to School by Laura Numeroff, and In a Cabin in a Wood, a story song adapted by Darcie McNally.

Students in Grades 1-4 are learning how to find books in the library. Students in grades three and four had to search for books by a particular author and find their placement in the library. Younger students had to alphabetize books by author. All students also got a review tour of the library to make sure we know where all the books are located.

A small group of student council students helped at the Christmas Party for the Yamusa & Tamariska Orphanages, hosted by BIWA.
