Have a Great Holiday!

This is our last post before the holiday, so we hope everyone has a great time. Ibu Yanti is off to Riau, Indonesia and Ms. Megan will be diving in and around Phuket, Thailand.

This week, we have three videos. The first is a compilation of some of our favorite pictures taken during the performance of The Wizard of Oz.

The second is a culmination video of the Kindergarten's Playing with the Classics (curriculum by Dr. Peggy Bennett) unit. I love seeing students enjoy classical music.

The third is an impromptu video that the Kindergarten insisted on recording after they started to learn Lava from the Pixar Short Film.

You can view all of the beautiful photos from The Wizard of Oz on the PRIS Website, or click on this link to go directly to the album.

Today in Kindergarten library, we had a guest-reader. Mr. Mark has become extremely popular amongst the children and they were so excited to have him read to them.

This week, students are finishing up their piano/iPad unit in music and their Bravery/Courage unit in Library.

After the holiday, the students will start several different units. All grades will start preparing for the end-of-year/end-of-school concert, tentatively titled "PRIS Final Farewell". This past week, students in grades 3-8 began to plan what that concert would look like.

Pre-K and Kindergarten students will begin a Rhythm Band unit--watch for videos on the YouTube Page.

Grades 1-2 will learn some basics of ukulele and recorder.

Grades 3-4 will also study recorder, with the option to continue on ukulele if they prefer.

And Grades 5-8 will do a joint Language Arts and Music unit involving poetry, lyrics, and composition, utilizing GarageBand, the keyboards, and other instrumentation.

The YouTube and Blog account will remain functional after the school closes, so feel free to keep sharing posts and videos with friends and family!

The Wizard of Oz--Behind the Scenes

It has been a busy week! Grade 1-8 students had two FABULOUS performances for The Wizard of Oz. It took a lot of work to get to this point--rehearsals, costumes, props, sets, etc. Below is a slideshow of all the amazing work we completed to get to those two performances:

We hope to have pictures from the show soon (they will be posted here, as well as on the school website). We will also let you know when the video is available.

Hello Parents and Staff,

As some of you may already know, Balikpapan will have visibility for a total solar eclipse on Wednesday, March 9th. We do not have school that day, but there is a scheduled play practice for all cast starting at 10 am. Therefore, we are inviting you to a viewing party at 8:15 am. We will meet on the soccer field and view the eclipse using viewers that 5-8th grade students have made. After the eclipse, the students will be offered a light breakfast snack and juice. After, the students will attend rehearsal.

Since the Kindergarteners and Pre-Schoolers are not involved in the play, they are still invited but must come with a parent.

This is not a requirement but it would be nice to experience this (sometimes) once in a lifetime event. We hope the weather and clouds work in our favor!

Please RSVP to me or Ms. Megan by Monday, March 7th so we know how many treats to have.
Thank you!
Kate

Also, this past assembly, one of our talented musicians and actors shared some work he'd been doing outside of school.
