Growing Leaves of Thanksgiving

Some of you may have noticed the new Gratitude Tree in the library. This beautiful tree was designed by Ibu Yanti and executed with the help of Pak Gunadi and Pak Ponidin. It is based on the Indian legend of the Banyan Tree. You might notice that tree is rather bare. That's because we need leaves of Thanksgiving for our tree. Here, Ms. Ellen's Grade 1/2 class explains how parents, staff and teachers can make our tree truly beautiful.

During the month of November, we are concentrating on gratitudes in library. As Ms. Sadek has explained, this is our theme for this month. In Grades Pre-K through Grade 1, we reviewed step 1 of gratitude, which is politeness and manners. We read Thelonius Monster's Sky-High Fly Pie by Judy Sierra & Edward Koren, a fun book about throwing a party and giving compliments to the host.

Ms. Ellen's class helped jumpstart the Gratitude Tree by making the above video. Their extra efforts are much appreciated.

The Grade 3/4 class listened to the old Japanese fable, The Tale of the Mandarin Ducks by Katherine Paterson. This story is about how giving kindness and gratitude, even when it is hard, can bring kindness and gratitude back to you in the end.

In music class, students, recovered from their break for Halloween songs, returned to work hard on concert songs and instrumental activities. KG-2 are combined now, once per week, to practice their songs together. Grade 4 is working hard on recorders and Middle School has almost mastered the three major chords for Jingle Bells. KG-1 is working with a small percussion band for a song in the Holiday Concert. Remember, you can find practice videos for the Holiday Concert and MP3s & lyrics here:

Annie, Jr. auditions are coming up in about two weeks. This is for all middle school students and the Grade 3/4 students that were in drama club. Students will sign-up for after school audition times for November 24 or 25. The links below contain practice videos and the audition packet for further information. They must fill out and return the last page (front & back) of the packet either at their audition or before.
